Is there pretty much a direct mapping between the initial swelling and where I can expect new collagen to form in a year or so? I'm hoping not because as it is now, my face just looks shapeless and pillow-like, which is what I was hoping to avoid. I wanted just a subtle lift and got a fat-faced, smooshed look instead. Does this fullness project something like what I'll see later? I'm not that swollen now, but the subtle contours of my face are a wrap and I'm kind of pissed about how it's shaped.

Answer: Sculptra swelling after Injection Sculptra is an excellent product to stimulate production of significant amounts of collagen in the skin. Depending on how much volumization is required, the physician will typically give the patient an estimate of the number of vials required to be injected to achieve the desired volumization. In younger patients who require minimal volumization and more skin firming, fewer vials and perhaps more dilution of the product with additional added sterile water may be employed. If you required minimal volume your physiciam may have added more sterile water to the vial which would result in more impressive, and temporary, swelling for a week or so after the injection. Generally, the amount of swelling after an injection will be much more than the amount of firming or volumization that will ultimately result from collagen stimulation from that vial(s) of Sculptra. Most patients return for multiple visits, as two vials of Sculptra is the maximum that wouod be injected in the face per session. If you appeared too swollen immediately after the injection, this usually indicates one should wait 3-6 months for the full Sculptra effect and then reevaluate the need for more injections. Always seek out an experienced and board ceetified dermatologist, plastic surgeon or head and neck surgeon to perform these injections.
