Are you supposed to feel lip implants inside your lip (Permalip)? What is the likelihood of me having to get them redone?

Thank you for your question. Generally I find that it is not advisable to have an implant if you haven't tried filler first. This will give you an idea of what it would feel like to have substance within your lips. The implant feels smoother than the filler and once established does not tend to cause many problems. Most patients do feel the implants initially until they get used to them. Generally if they are in the correct position, then once healed they are not as noticeable. Ideally, having a filler first is better for two reasons. Firstly, it will give you the feel of something in your lip and secondly, the amount of filler will equate to the sizeof implant that is ideal for you. The largest implant is a 5 mm implant and this equates to 1.5 mLs of filler. I hope this is helpful for youKR

I have found that permalips are not for everyone. I usually only recommend permalip implants once the patient has tried lip fillers on several occasions and they like the result but they dissolve fillers quickly. I now adopt this policy having had a couple of patients who went straight for a permalip despite not having fillers before. They had their implants removed, even though I recommended lip fillers to them so that they could try them first. I find also that permalip implants tend to move around and the commonest thing I have found is that they sit slightly unevenly in the lip, slightly off centre from the mid line. This is because the lip width is increased with movement such as smiling, talking, etc. I think the minor revision rate is quite high (slight adjustments, etc) and the removal rate is not so high. Every permalip implant is palpable - if you don't want to feel the implant then it can certainly be removed and you can have lip fillers or fat injections instead. However, if someone can live with the fact that the implants can be felt, I think they do give a really nice natural looking result and a lot of women are happy with the results of permalip if they're willing to accept the implications of having lip implants.
