There is always a risk you may have some degree of permanent numbness but it is a small risk. Your plastic surgeon will discuss the risks fully with you at your consultation.

Lip implants are inserted from one corner of the mouth to the other usually under local anesthesia. Numbness is necessary to start and finish the lip implants but not beyond it. However it takes time to heal and full sensation may take time to come back between could of weeks to some months. The shape of the modern silicone implants is wonderful and many patients and their loved ones adore it on the long run.
I've performed many lip implants and have never had anyone complaint of numbness. They are certainly swollen for about a week and ultimately take a few more weeks to settle down, but there should be no permanent numbness. Good luck!
