So I had 5400 FUE grafts done over two sessions which I was really happy with. However, as you can imagine the donor area has obviously been heavily harvested! I saw on this website that you can have SMP to darken scars, but I'm worried that if SMP is performed , it would be difficult for a doctor to harvest more grafts in future should I require further work, because they may not be able to distinguish between SMP spots or hair follicles. Please could you advise
Answer: SMP SMP, or scalp micropigmentation, is a painless procedure that uses highly specialized equipment and unique techniques to carefully and expertly inject all-natural, color-tailored pigments into the scalp creating a completely natural look of the patient’s hairline. A typical procedure involves an initial consultation and two pigmentation sessions to achieve the desired results. You can wash your head the fourth day after the treatment and, during that time, avoid any strenuous activity that will prompt undesired sweating. Once the procedure is complete, the results of a Scalp Micropigmentation treatment can last up to five years. In your situation, I believe you benefit from SMP to fill in the scaring. It is easy to be able to distinguish between hair follicles and SMP dots, so this would not be a problem in the future. Gary Linkov, MD Hair Specialist Manhattan

Answer: Cover up scar It sounds like SMP is a great solution in your case. It will help camouflage the scars you have and give a “full” appearance. Good luck to you.

Answer: Quality of the pigmentation Scalp pigmentation can help to camouflage the FUE scarring. It should be applied well after the FUE procedure to allow the scarring to relax and the skin complexion return to the settled state. Applying pigment to scarring can react differently to virgin skin. It may take more sessions to complete a solid result where the pigment tone remains stable. FUE punching should be performed under magnification. This will make seeing the difference between a one dimensional pigment and a short stubby hair shaft very possible.

Answer: FUE after SMP SMP can improve the appearance of your donor area, and the pigment is easy to differentiate from native hair follicles during manual harvest. Based on your appearance and number of grafts you've had harvested, you may not have enough hair for another FUE procedure regardless.
