Hi, Congratulations on your surgery. Thank you for your post. It is common to become constipated after taking pain medication. Constipation can cause darker colored stool, however, black stool can also be a GI bleed. I would continue to watch the color and if it does not change contact your surgeon for further evaluation. Make sure that you are drinking plenty of water.
First of all, congratulations on your liposuction, JOANNARUTH123!One of the reasons why your poo turned black is because of constipation due to your pain medications. Some patients experience that, and it’s totally fine. However, black poo can also indicate bleeding in your upper GI tract. I suggest that you continue observing your bowel movements in the next few days and if it persists, you may want to consult your reputable and board-certified plastic surgeon and ask for advice.Best of luck!
Thank you for your question. Chances are, it's totally fine. You are likely constipated from the pain medication that you took after the surgery; or maybe from anesthesia; or, perhaps from fluid shifts after the surgery. It's likely normal, and should get better. If it doesn't, it may want to be something that you get checked out by your PCP. In the interim, if you are still experiencing constipation you may want to start something over the counter, like colace or senna. Best of luck!
