Laser for dark spots after acne? (Photo)

Question

i was on accutane and am left with dark hyperpigmentation on my pale skin. mostly flat, though some is a tiny bit raised (scar tissue i presume) i am willing to get laser treatment or microdermabrasion (at home?) or any products (suggestings? i hear hydroquinone but need prescription? or at home peel?). it has been almost 6 months since accutane. sensitive skin though.

Thank you for your question.  Generally, you are supposed to wait at least a year before having any laser treatment done.  You could use a prescription of hydroquinone to help lighten the hyperpigmentation and even out your skin tone. Best Wishes!

Thank you for your question about laser treatments.  At our office we use the Sciton laser.  The Sciton laser allows us to treat fine lines and wrinkles from several different approaches.  The gold standard is that HALO.  The HALO treatment combines ablative and non-ablative wavelengths.  The benefit of this combination of wavelengths allows patients to get ablative results with non-ablative downtime.  Below is the link to our website where you can read  more information about the HALO procedure.Laser treatments are to be used with topical agents such as hydroquinone, Lytera 2.0 or Koji Pads with Arbutase.

I would suggest a consultation with a cosmetic physician to determine your best course of action. Topical treatment such as hydroquinone and/or tretinoin at prescription strength potency would be a great starting point. I would be careful about not doing home treatments since you might cause additional pigmentation problems.  Generally, it is recommended to wait 1 year before laser treatment on a person who has used Accutane to make sure that the oil glands necessary for good healing to be functional again.
