Thank you for your question about swelling after Volift (Vollure here in the United States). It is very common to have swelling after filler injection. This particular filler is a Hyaluronic Acid (HA) filler. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that holds water temporarily. Therefore it is expected that you will have swelling for several days to a few weeks. If you are experiencing severe pain or color change to your skin in the area of injection, you should contact your provider that injected you. Otherwise, your swelling should slowly regress over the next several days. To be sure, see two or more experienced, licensed and board-certified providers in your area for a complete evaluationto make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to havetreatment.I hope this helps.
Hi Vikki1987, thanks for your question.Swelling is one of the most common temporary side effects of dermal filler injections, including Juvéderm Volift (now known as Juvéderm Vollure in the US). In most cases, swelling is mild to moderate, but when filler is injected directly into the lips, significant swelling is possible. Though unpleasant, the most significant swelling typically lasts less that 48 hours. If you are uncomfortable or desire a quicker resolution, contact your doctor to see if a steroid taper might be appropriate. I advise my patients avoid salty foods 48 hours before and after filler treatment to minimize swelling. It is always best to schedule treatment with the expectation of swelling and bruising - just in case! This ensures you’ll have a few days of “social downtime” to recover without stress. Keep in mind that most people are happiest with their filler treatment starting a few weeks after the procedure itself. It takes some time for the filler to settle in, and the body response to resolve completely. That said, if you continue to experience prolonged swelling, or otherwise aren’t pleased with your results, be sure to follow up with your doctor.
Thank you for sharing your question and photographs and I am sorry that your current lip augmentation results have caused you to worry. Swelling after filler placement into the lips is quite common due to the thin nature of the tissues. This swelling, and your results, will steadily improve over the next 10-14 days. It often takes up to 2 weeks for fillers to soften and the tissues to appear more natural. In the meantime try reducing the swelling by using cold compresses to your lips and elevating your head at night with a couple of extra pillows behind your back. You may want to also consider using Arnica Montana and bromelain as supplements. Hang in there!
The most common reason for such dramatic swelling is that after the injection you probably had a salty meal or drink. If you have had alot of salt even within 2-3 days prior to the filler this can give you alot of swelling. The next time I would suggest going with a low salt diet prior to the treatment. Taking an antihistamine if you do not have any allergies or contraindications to it. If the swelling does not begin to decrease after a few days contact your doctor.
If you are unhappy, reverse the filler with hyaluronidase. I suggest waiting at least 2 weeks. Best, Dr. Emer.
Hello Vikki from NYC!Not all fillers in the lip swell. Beletero, RHA2, Restylane Kysse and Restylane Defyne cause very minimal swelling. Of the three, Beletero swells the least, often not at all, and along with RHA2 is the smoothest, but also has the shortest duration. Kysse is still soft and smooth but also can create more definition and lasts longer. Defyne will stretch as your lips stretch. So if you don’t want to go through this next time, there are great options for you!Sheryl Clark MD FAAD
Hi!I find that with the newer vicross fillers (Vollure and Volbella), any amount of post injection smoothing of bumps or light massaging makes the product swell like crazy. I use a very soft touch now to lightly palpate the lips and make sure there aren't any bumpy areas which is common after injecting, and have seen a big decrease in exaggerated swelling. I wouldn't worry about your situation since it's so soon after being injected. Ice, Benadryl before bed, and keeping the head elevated will help the swelling subside over the next day or so.
Hi,Swelling can be pretty common after lip fillers, depending on the patient, the techniques used and the filler. Don't worry, it will settle over the next few days/week or so. Ice pack (10-15 minutes per hour), antihistamines and ibuprofen can help (if you're OK taking them).Your practitioner should really have gone through all this in your aftercare. Get back in touch with them if there is any issues, but it should settle of it's own accord, they should be happy to take a look and reassure you.
All lip fillers cause swelling, Vollure is no exception. Restylane Silk causes the most swelling given its hydrophillic nature. Next time, consider elevating your head, watch your salt intake, try Benadryl for 2 nights. If your lifestyle does not permit any swelling, ask for a Prednisone pack next time.Best wishes, Dr B

After any injection swelling is normal for up to 2 weeks. I recommend that my patients apply cold compresses such as ice packs to decrease the swelling.
