I have just had liposuction to the stomach, waist and hips but have found wearing the compression garment on the last tier very comfortable. It may sound silly but does it have to be worn this tight to make a difference or just whatever feels comfortable? Thanks

Answer: Garments after liposuction Wearing a garment after liposuction has several purposes: to make you more comfortable, to minimize bruising and swelling, to prevent fluid collection (seroma), to improve shape and contour, and to improve scarring. The garment should be snug enough that is compressing the surgical site but should not be uncomfortable. Be sure to avoid wrinkles or folds in the garment, especially in areas where you are numb from surgery. If a garment is causing pain, numbness, or is digging in to you, then it is too tight!

Answer: The use of compression garment There is no good scientific evidence that show compression garments have any impact on long-term outcomes. Most plastic surgeons use them. Please check with your plastic surgeon to see what he or she recommends in regards to how yours should fit.It should not be too difficult for your plastic surgeon to get you into the office on short notice if it's just a matter of checking how your compression garment is fitting.Best,Mats Hagstrom M.D.
