Should I get 1ml or 2ml Juvederm lip fillers?

I advise my patients to start with 1 ml of filler in the lips and wait 10-14 days to see how the lips look after the swelling resolves and then make a decision as to whether to get a second 1ml syringe. Remember there is no hurry.  Discuss your concerns with your injector and describe the look you desire.

While this will depend on your desired results, I recommend starting with 1 ml. I prefer to use a micro cannula to inject the lips to prevent swelling and/or bruising. Look for a cosmetic dermatologist or plastic surgeon who is an expert in fillers to discuss your desired results and concerns.

I would most definitely start with 1 ml of a filler such as juvederm or Restylane. Most of the filler should go to your upper lip since your lower lip appears to be quite full. Should you decide to have more product, you can always do so 1 to 2 weeks after the initial treatment.

I would suggest starting with one syringe and waiting for about 2 weeks, then decide if you would like to get another syringe.

Hoping not to look unusually full or weird I frequently recommend starting with one syringe. More can be added later if the patient desires and after the swelling has abated. Technique also will determine how much.  I frequently recommend during the treatment that the patient occasionally check the progress in order to help determine the final result. For this I hand the patient a mirror and ask them to occasionally look between injections. The patient will recognize when enough has been done. In this patient I believe that 1 mL would be plenty.

Hi Anna91,Thank you for your questions and for sharing your photos. How much Juvederm (or any dermal filler) you would require will depend on your goals. You can start slow and add more if you like. There is also the option to add a half syringe after 2-3 weeks once you have assessed your results with the doctor. It does not have to be 1ml or 2ml. The most important component in this decision-making process is to research the physician well and make sure they are an expert in injections. It is a delicate procedure and requires not only skill but an aesthetic eye to make sure the natural proportions of your facial anatomy are respected. If you are worried about being 'over-filled' you should always tell your treating Physician this before treatment commences. They can always do 1ml in your first treatment and then do a further treatment after 4-6 weeks once your initial filler has settled. In terms of placement of the filler I suggest looking at lots of pictures of lips before your appointment to clarify what shape lip you like before you get there. There is no right answer, it's whatever you like. I always get my patients involved during their treatments. Hold a mirror and look after each injection. You don't have to sit there at let them do all the deciding; decide together. The more involved you are in the process, the happier you will be with the outcome.
