Is a lollipop incision necessary for my breast implant and lift? (photo)

Although your photo is a limited frontal view of your breasts being pushed down by your clothing, you will need a breast augmentation and a lollipop or vertical scar lift to achieve your desired size and shape. A periareolar lift will not do. I personally mark the breasts for a short scar lift preoperatively. In surgery, I place the implants first (in your case could go under the breast tissue only) and then measure out how much skin and lower pole breast tissue needs to be removed safely and to give you a great result. An augmentation/lift is a difficult operation and needs to be done correctly the first time. In the plastic surgery literature a 30% reoperation rate is cited. Thanks for your ? and pic. It might be daunting to have more surgery and more scars but it is absolutely necessary. The short scar "lollipop" would work well for you. Your case is a little difficult because you have a wide areola and what appears to be a high and tight crease at the base of the breast. The size of the areola will need to be reduced and technically there may still be a small amount of peripheral areolar tissue that is pigmented on either side of the vertical scar. I think that once your scars fade they will be faint. Overall you will end up with an improved shape and be happy. Make sure you find someone in your area that is experienced and is an ASAP member. From your photo, it does appear that you will benefit from a breast augmentation and a lift.  The breast augmentation will increase your volume and the lift will remove the excess breast tissue and reposition your areolas to a more central position on your breast mound.  Yes there are scars from the lift procedure, but most patients are happy with the results and can overlook the scarring.  There are also many treatments that can help minimize the appearance of the scars which you can discuss with your surgeon.  ac

Dear BajanQueen007,  One of the myths of breast augmentation that I would love to destroy is that breast implants alone will significantly raise breasts.  Implants add volume and they can make a small impact on lifting the breasts but only a very small impact alone.  This is why so many women do require both a breast lift and a breast augmentation to achieve the breast size and shape they desire. Though your photos are limited and cannot replace a consultation and an examination, a vertical mastopexy (Lollipop Lift) is probably needed to obtain the results you desire.  The incisions will fade and the shape will remain. Please consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon who can help guide you on your goal to rejuvenate your breasts.

and if you're trying to avoid scarring, the lollipop is the best way to achieve that.  I'm sorry but scars come with the procedure and goal of having rejuvenated breasts.  Some doctors will sell you on the peri-areoolar lift and if they are willing to guarantee their results and longevity, get it in writing and go for it.  Unfortunately, if you want perkier breasts, you must accept scars.

It looks like you need a breast augmentation  with a lift.  There are trade-offs with all operations and goals of surgery. If you want a lift you have to accept a certain amount of incisions on yoru breast.

If you do not want tthe full lift, you might consider placing the implants just under the breast tissue for a "natural look", or only lifting around the areola with placing the implants just behind the breast tissue. If implants are placed behind the muscle and a full lift is needed but not done, you could have the odd 4-breast look.

Thank you for your question. Breast implants will enlarge your breasts and help to fill out the loose skin, but will not lift the breasts or improve nipple position.

To elevate nipple position, a breast left procedure with incision around the areola is necessary. The repositioning of the areola and the reshaping of the breast will also require (at least) a vertical scar from the areola to the breast crease.

The procedure that uses only the scar around the edge of the areola would present some significant trade-offs in shaping the breast and the areola, and may not be worth the fewer scar lines.

There are options for breast lift and augmentation that involve less scarring than vertical ( lollipop) mastopexy but it is hard to tell if this would work for you without examining you personally. Seek a plastic surgeon certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgeons and preferably one who specializes in cosmetic surgery, they will be a member of The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. The photo you posted is limited, but it suggests that your breast tissue is stretched and droopy.  An implant alone will increase the size of your breast but will do little to lift the breast up.  An implant alone is unlikely to give you the results you desire.  Operations with minimal scars usually produce minimal results.
