Can I have Emsculpt with a small umbilical hernia?

Question

I have a small umbilical hernia. I have no pain or problems. Just an outty where it use to be in. I am postpartum 3 pregnancies and would like to have emsculpt done, is that possible or could it cause it to rupture? I am 5 months postpartum at this time.

A small umbilical hernia should not be a contraindication for EMSculpt. If you are allowed to do sit ups, you should be OK to do EMSculpt. EMSculpt will cause hypercontractions of the abdominal muscles which ultimately creates an increase in muscle mass, a decrease in the overlying fat, and a more toned abdominal appearance. You may want to consider seeing a general surgeon to evaluate the small hernia so you can consider repairing it.Andrew Campbell, M.D.Quintessa

Hi staciemariely,If you were my patient I would have you see a general surgeon for examination of your umbilical hernia, and ask for clearance for the Emsculpt procedure.  Emsculpt is a great procedure for postpartum women as it strengthens the abdominal muscle and helps to diminish the diastasis recti.  Good luck and be well.Dr. P
