Is it possible that lipomas can be absorbed by the body healing itself?

I have a very painful lipoma on my wrist/hand. Does it ever just disappear?

Thank you for your excellent question.  Unfortunately lipomas are not absorbed by the body, and tend to grow slowly with time.  They can occasionally cause pain, but if you have a mass at the wrist/hand level it would be important to first rule out a ganglion cyst which is the most common mass of the hand, and tends to be characteristically painful.  See a board certified plastic surgeon who also did a fellowship in hand surgery for the best results

Ganglion cysts can rupture and on occasion, resolve after rupture. Most will recur.Lipomas are known to stay the same size or enlarge over time.Dr Karamanoukian
