I am 3 1/2 weeks post op tummy tuck and my incision by the pubic area has not closed . My doctor used nylon stitches to re suture the wound and 4 days later one of the stitches came off and once again the wound is open I am worried and frustrated, why is this happening ? I attached a photo of the wound, does it look like a healthy wound? Is it healing?
Answer: Tummy tuck incision You do not appear to have an infection, just a wound separation. The best thing to do is to keep it clean and the wound will gradually heal on its own. It may then benefit from a scar revision at a later time. It may take a month for it to heal. However, if you try to have it sewn closed, it will simply fall apart again.

CONTACT NOW Answer: Healing after tummy tuck surgery Healing after tummy tuck surgery#tummytuck surgery incisions will have problems on occasion from the tension of the closure. In my opinion, i let openings like this close on their own over a few weeks#ScarRevision surgery can be done 6-12 months later if needed.

Answer: Should I be concerned my Tummy tuck incision is not healing correctly? This is not "normal' for a tummy tuck, but is a known complication that happens for many different reasons. One is that the closure was too tight...another is that there was a small area of infection...even another is + cigarette smoking or history of diabetes. The good news is that this wound problem is more of a nuisance. If you follow your PS recommendations on how to take care of the wound, it will heal up like nothing ever happened. Worse case scenario, the scar in that spot will be a little wider. If that happens, this can easily be corrected under local anesthesia in the office once the scar settles down 6-12 months after the wound heals. Try to stay positive.

Answer: Tummy Tuck Incision....Should I Be Concerned? Thanks for your question and your pictures. Sorry to hear you are having problems after surgery. Although small areas of healing difficulty are not standard after a tummy tuck, they do happen on occasion. They are often due to an area of a dissolving deep suture or a small spot of necrosis. In our case there might have been an area of superficial infection that refuses to be closed up. When this happens, the area usually resolves over time with local wound care. I suggest you follow up with your plastic surgeon and let them examine the area. He or she can tell you exactly what you need to do for local wound care and how best to treat the area.Best of luck to you!
