Left side of my face perfect, soft. Right side lower cheek is swelling with a large hard lump. Today (2week post op) my upper cheekbone (undereye) is hard/ swollen. I looked better 5 days post op than now. 1 week post op I had a dexamthazone shot, which helped, I had another yesterday, now worse. I sleep up right, I take 800mg of Ibporfen, I was told not to use ice, it melts fat. I use warm, but can't tell if it makes it worse or not. My dr is very experience in fat transfer, but not helpful now

Answer: Asymmetric swelling after fat transfer It is not uncommon to have more swelling on one side of the face than the other after fat transfer. However, if a hard lump is developing and the area feels warm to the touch you may have an underlying infection. This should be related to your surgeon so he is aware and may prescribe antibiotics. Although ice can be detrimental to the fat, I do recommend cool compresses. This means taking gauze dipped in ice water and placing that on the area of the hard lump. Sometimes, manual lymphatic drainage can also be helpful at this time. This should be done by a certified therapist who has training and certification in manual lymphatic drainage.

Answer: Infection? You need to be assessed for an infection of you grafted area. Infections can and do occur. I would advise a checkup and likely antibiotics. My Best, Dr C
