What are the pros and cons of the various types of chin implants?

The type of implant used for chin augmentation will normally be based on the preference of the surgeon. I prefer to use silicone chin implants and find they give good results. There are a variety of styles and sizes that can be used.

I prefer to place silicone chin implants over Gore-tex or Medpor. They come in many sizes and shapes, are easily customized and if needed, can be quickly and simply removed. The other implants are difficult to customize and can be difficult to remove. In terms of natural appearance, I think that a genioplasty (moving your own chin ) provides the most natural results. In fact, for advancements greater that 5mm, I will perform the genioplasty over the implant. Both procedures are performed in the office with intravenous sedation.

In our practice for over 25 years , we have used silastic chin implants by Implantech, with an excellent success rate.The results are very natural. We do not recommend porous implants.
