Will a Plastic Surgeon remove a Lipoma? (Photos)

Lipomas are benign fatty tumors that occur under the skin and less commonly within the muscle. They are associated with mild discomfort and a lump underneath the skin. It is always best to talk to an expert plastic surgeon to determine whether the lipoma is possibly a cyst or a tumor or hernia. We would have to remove the lipoma to be sure that it is not something else and we usually do this by sending it to a pathologist for evaluation. If a lipoma is painful, then an exam is needed to make sure it is not compressing on a nerve or whether the diagnosis is different. Aftercare for a lipoma includes gentle compression and Plato’s Scar Serum twice daily on the wound.

Many thanks for your question. Yes lipomas are removed by plastic surgeons and most likely you will be able to have yours removed whilst awake under local anaesthetic as a day case procedure. It is possible to keep scarring and downtime to a minimum.

Hello, thanks for your query. Yes lipoma removal is common procedure performed by plastic surgeons. Many a times liposuction is performed initially to reduce the size of lipoma and remove it through a very small incision. Consult a board certified plastic surgeon.

Lipoma
removal is a procedure commonly performed by plastic surgeons for the simple
reason that our tools and techniques ultimately provide the patient with an
aesthetically pleasing result. 
The
procedure is relatively simple beginning with a local freezing and excision of
the lipoma (fatty tissue) through a small incision. If sutures are required
they are typically dissolvable within a few days or if need be removed in 7 to
10 days. Although our goal is to have an aesthetically pleasing result, the
specimen removed from the body is always sent to be tested and post operative
care is followed closely with the patient to ensure proper healing.
In
some cases, if the lipoma is to large or deep, the procedure may be performed
under a general anaesthetic and surgical protocols would be followed
accordingly. R

Removal of lipomas is a common procedure and many plastic surgeons would perform this procedure under the arm.

Thank you for your question and for sharing your photos. I would need to examine you in-person to more fully answer your question. Lipomas are generally benign fatty tumors (not cancer). However, they can be bothersome, disfiguring, and do tend to get bigger with time. For these reasons, I recommend patients have them removed once they become bothersome. I perform lipoma removal surgery using a combination of direct excision and liposuction, which allows me to use a very small incision (and, therefore, results in a very small scar). I perform this procedure in our fully accredited operating room under local anesthesia. I recommend you speak with a fully-trained plastic surgeon to discuss treatment options.

Plastic surgeons very commonly treat lipomas.  In our office we often perform liposuction to these to debulk the fatty tissue and minimize the necessary scar.  I would recommend consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss this option.

I would recommend you see a Board Certified Plastic surgeon who can discuss with cutting or liposucking out the fatty overgrowth in your armpit. This can all be done for you in the office under local anaesthesia.
