Will my chin implant drastically effect the way my face looks from the front? (Photo)

Question

I will be getting an extended anatomic silicon implant in a few weeks. My doctor recommended I get a size large. I want the implant to give me a stronger chin and better jawline, but I am worried that it will change the look of my face from the front too much. I am also getting liposuction of the chin done. I am posting this because I would like a second opinion. Will my face change drastically from the front or will the implant mostly effect my side profile?

Most of the time, the change in your face from front view does not alter much after a chin implant. However, there will be a difference. If you are feeling uncomfortable or wary about your upcoming procedure, feel free to give your facial plastic surgeon a call. They could generate a digital photo for you that would give you a better idea of your results from all angles. I hope this helps.

Many patients do not see much change in the frontal view after a chin implant UNLESS they are looking for a change in the frontal view. In this case, a different type of implant is used to address their concerns. Some patients want a more square frontal presentation. Others, want to fill out the hollow below the corner of the mouth. Better images are needed to assess your case, however so far from the photo posted I can comment the basics.
Let me point out the serious disadvantages of chin implants, which 
are of great technical ease for surgeons but troublesome for patients, 
having a short lifetime, high rate of unnatural results, high rate of 
complications like infection, dislocation and nerve irritation, etc. I 
strongly vow osseous genioplasties, which are lifetime stable, natural 
and leading to versatile and natural results, though more technically 
challenging and performed by few.
About your chin, you may agree with me you chin is as much vertically
 short than anteriorly deprojected, and needs both: vertical height 
increase and anterior increas/re-projection; this is absolutely 
unfeasible with a chin implant (which provides anterior increase only) 
besides is aforementioned downsides. This procedure is called two 
dimenstional augmentation geniplasty, is an awesome operation with 
shocking results and safe in the best hands.

The effects of a chin implant is3D, particularly given that the chin is a protruding structure of the lower face. A chin implant will affect every viewing angle of the chin to some degree, that is unavoidable. Whether the change forming the frontal view will be significant depends on the size and shape of the chin implant and how you interpret 'significant'.

In our practice we do perform extended anatomical silicone implants frequently, but usually size small or medium. Hi, I have performed many facial shaping procedures, including Chin Augmentation with dermal fillers or silastic chin implants, for over 30 years.  From the photos, your chin is weak.  When the chin is weak, this creates an imbalance making the nose appear larger, the mid face top heavy, the lower face looks short, de-emphasizes the lips and allows early formation of a "double chin".  
 The silastic chin implant adds forward projection to the chin thereby creating harmony and balance to the lower face.  Using the same incision, liposuction can be performed to reduce the fat and further shape the neck.  Excess skin, from below the chin, can also be removed through the same incision.  
 I have found that placement of a silastic chin implant, through a small curved incision under the chin (also allows excess skin removal) to be very safe, quick, highly effective and far less invasive than a sliding genioplasty.  I perform chin implant surgery in 30 minutes or less, often using a local anesthetic alone.  In my opinion, you are a good candidate for chin implant surgery however, I would use a size medium EAC.  In my experience and humble opinion, when the proper shape and sized implant is properly placed it will only "improve" the entire lower face.Hope this helps.

In order to better answer the question it would help to see a picture from the front.  A large implant may square your chin off in a way that will be different from what you have now.

Good question. Typically there is a modest but pleasing change from the frontal view in keeping with the generally larger look of the chin. The greatest change is seen in the profile view.
