Why does my lips get chapped right after lip filler?

Question

I’ve heard if you lick your lips or possibly don’t drink enough water after your lip filler appointment that you can get chapped lips but I drink plenty of water and make sure to not lick my lips so was wondering if there could be any other reasons could be happening?

Thank you for your question. This is usually due to manipulation of the lip during the procedure as well as stretching of the tissue. Try a lip hydrator like a SkinMedica HA5 product and consider using it prior to the procedure as well. Thank you for sharing your excellent question.  In most cases the dry lips occurs after the stretching of the lip tissues with the dermal filler and injections, as well as the manipulation of the lips with gauze during the treatment.  Keep up with your water intake and protect the lips with some form of moisturizer and steady improvement should be seen.  Hope this helps.

Thank you for your question. It is not uncommon to get chapped lips following filler. As the skin is stretched and manipulated during injection it can cause dryness. Keep a moisturizing lip balm handy and apply frequently as needed. Follow up with your injector to address your concern. Good luck!

The reason people get chapped lips after lip augmentation is because the lips get largeer in size and the skin as well as mucosa covering the lips gets stretched. In some individuals the skin is more sensitive and this makes the skin crack and the lips become chapped. This process almost always goes away in a few days. Good luck from New York City
