How much time should I wear my compression belt after an umbilical hernia surgery, Lipo and Tummy tuck?

I had an umbilical hernia surgery, lipo and tummy tuck. It's been 8 weeks using it on the regular day, I take it off to sleep. I can't wait to start working out, but I'm scared my hernia can come back.

There is a variable amount of time to which it is
recommended that patients wear compression garments after procedures,
especially given the details of any patient varying from one to another. There
is usually the need to wear it 24/7 for the first couple of weeks, and then it
can be taken off at night the next two weeks, and removed more regularly up to
the 8-week mark so that you can be back to full regular activity. If there are
any difficulties be sure to consult your surgeon, as there is always the option
to wear the garment longer if needed.

Since every surgeon has his or her own post op protocol, this question will best be answered by him or her. Having said that, at 8 weeks, you should be fine to stop wearing your garment and to start exercising again. Best, Dr. Nazarian

After 8 weeks you can return to working out without restrictions. The binder or compression belt can be discontinued as well. Congratulations on your surgery!

Thank you for your question and Congratulations!!! I usually tell  my patients to wear the compression garment for the first 6 weeks  post surgery at all time and the next 2 weeks only at night time. At 8 weeks 
post-surgery they should be able to do normal activities and any kind of exercises with no restriction but with common sense. It always best to contact your Plastic Surgeon for follow up and his or her postoperative instructions.Best Regards.

Thank you for your question! I instruct my patients to wear the post-surgical compression garment for 1 month post surgery. At 6 weeks post-surgery you may go back to normal activities with no restriction. Start slow and work you way up to where you were before surgery. It would be best to check with you own Plastic Surgeon as each has their own protocol. They should be able to guide you and answer all of your specific questions.

Six to eight weeks should be enough time for recovering from
a hernia repair. Start slowly and evolve as you see how your body responds.
