Will I be okay during my reduction Bc I have a hiatal hernia; will that affected during surgery?

Anesthesiologists have a protocol they use in patients with reflux. There will also be a tube in your airway to prevent anything that reflexes from getting into your airway. Anesthesiologists see this often enough that they can deal with it safely and it won’t be a problem.

breast reduction should have no negative effect on your breast reduction. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.

You should not eat or drink 8 hours before surgery.  Reflux is not common when under general anesthesia, but can add to the possible complications in the intraoperative period. Discuss this with your PS and anesthesiologist.

Your plastic surgeon and anesthesia provider MUST be aware of your condition before surgery. Placement of an endotracheal tube and perhaps an NG tube during the procedure (while you are asleep and removed before you wake up) will prevent aspiration....and nothing to eat or drink for at least 8 hours prior to your surgery.

You will be NPO (nothing to eat or drink) for at least 8 hours before the surgery, which will reduce the risk of reflux.   it should be mentioned to the anesthesiologist. Best wishes.
