Do you think the eating of salty Supper Bowl food caused me to swell after Liposuction?

I am still swollen after laser abd lipo, but every day it was going down. I am still wearing the compression suit and bandage. Last night I noticed a return of swelling after laser abd lipo, so Last night I noticed a return of swelling after laser abd lipo. 44 y/o BF 7 days post laser liposuction of upper and lower abds and chin.

Yes this can for sure be the case.  all of my liposuction patients are directed in a proper low salt high protein diet with exercise after liposuction and get diuretics to decrease swelling faster.  I would speak to your treating physician if you are concerned.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Hi there. It was a great game and a time for minor indulgences like delicious, perhaps a bit salty food. Yes you can have recurrent swelling of the treated areas after a salty meal. Although transient, its a disturbing consequence. You should contact your BCPS or the staff nurse for instructions.  I'd suggest that you  hydrate with well- balanced electrolyte water and resume massage of the treated areas.  Good luck and good looks. Dr. Burnett

Swelling after liposuction may increase by not wearing your garment, eating salty foods that encourage you to retain water, and excessive activities. Did you stand up and cheer a lot during the game?

Congratulations! You just passed your first year of medical school.Yes, salt causes water retention.When I was in medical school, I overheard an attending physician tell another medical student one kidney is smarter than four doctors.Assuming your kidneys are in good working order, they will very quickly realize too much salt has been consumed, and they will get rid of the salt quickly. In the interim, they will need a little water to hold things over, and as such, you may have been thirsty after eating your salty food.No long-term impact should result from your indulgence.Best of luck,Mats Hagstrom, M.D.

It is common for your weight to be a bit more or the same after a liposuction procedure due to swelling and fluid retention. It can easily take 3-6 months to see results. I tell my patients to be careful about salt intake as this can make swelling worse. Be sure to keep any scheduled follow up appointments you have with your surgeons for his evaluation and advice.
