This response was dictated. I apologize for potential grammatical errors. My best answer to you is to not feel like you’re in a hurry and to take your time with your decision-making. You can always consult with plastic surgeons but recognize they’re going to be motivated to do your procedure. Defect did you get reassurance from a plastic surgeon during a consultation does not mean you need to have breast augmentation at that time or later in the future. if you do decide to get surgical intervention, do you wanna make sure that it gets done correctly. It’s a fairly complicated process that may seem simple at first. The more we know about something the more we realize how little we know. For example, there’s a really big difference in long-term success and outcome with breast documentation, depending on which provider you choose irrespective of board certification, excellent reviews, and years of practice. Implant selection is also very important and I recommend not rushing into these decisions. Generally speaking, I usually tell people that when the condition bothers them enough that they’re willing to have surgical intervention, then they’re probably fairly ready to have the procedure. Until you feel confident that you want to have an operation, you should probably wait. If the time comes, and you decide you want to have a breast augmentation then I suggest you approach the process in the following manner. First make a list of plastic surgeons in your community who seem to have a lot of experience and good reviews for breast augmentation surgery. Have someone take pictures of your upper torso and breasts the same way plastic surgeons take before and after pictures. Use those pictures preferably printed whenever having a consultation or whenever reviewing before and after pictures. Don’t rely on your memory or looking in mirrors during an assessment. Once you have a list of potential providers, I suggest you scheduled in person consultations with each of those providers. Do not rely on virtual consultations. You need to meet the surgeon who is going to do your operation in person. Bring pictures of your body to use as reference during the consultation. During each consultation, ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before, and after pictures of previous patients who had similar body characteristics to your own. Ask the provider to write your candidacy for the procedure. Not everybody is an excellent candidate for breast augmentation. Variables that will change your candidacy include breast position on the chest wall, breast, droopiness, small breast, diameter, nipple, divergence, and a few others. Implant selection is best done with the provider. Each plastic surgeon will have their own way of guiding patients through the implant selection process. Implant selection is generally based on size shape, and type of implant. Decision regarding the implants is fairly important and will have potential consequences. Going to small may cause regret later and using excessively large implants can lead to Increase rates of complications, secondary problems and higher revision rates. Ask each provider what’s your preferred implant incision site is and if they prefer to put the implants above or below the pectoralis muscle and why.Ask each provider what’s your most common reason for doing revision surgery is, what their revision rate is, and what their revision policy is. All patients who get breast implants will, at some point in their life have more surgery. It is extremely unlikely someone will have implants without having another breast operation in a lifetime. Take notes during each consultation, especially regarding the quality and quantity of before and after pictures. Complete all scheduled consultations before considering selecting a provider or scheduling surgery. Do not schedule surgery or make a deposit on the day of the consultation. Always give yourself time to think about the decision and make sure you finished all schedule consultations before selecting a provider or scheduling surgery. There’s no correct number of consultations needed to find the right provider. The two biggest mistakes patients make its first having only one consultation and then scheduling surgery. Scheduling only one consultation, more or less eliminates the ability to choose a better provider. The more consultations you schedule the more likely you are to find the best provider for your needs. This is important. The second mistake patients make when it comes to cosmetic surgery is assuming that board certified plastic surgeons who have a good reviews with years of experience have mastered most plastic surgical procedures. This is not true. There are significant differences and skill and experience for these procedures, depending who you choose as your provider. Do not rush into any decision-making and take more time rather than less. The process of selecting a provider should probably be done over about six months. It takes time to schedule multiple consultations. It can also involve cost if providers charge for their consultations. Having multiple consultations even if it costs money is an investment in yourself Because it’s helping you select the right provider which is going to have a major impact on the overall experience minimizing the chance of disappointment. Too many people don’t think complications or problems will happen to them until it does. When in doubt slow down. Best Mats Hagstrom, MD
