Is miraDry developing or improving for treat compensatory sweating?

Question

I am a 22 years old Hongkonger. I get compensatory sweating especially on my back and chest after had ETS in 2011. Is miraDry developing or improving for using on other part of body? Is it possible to treat compensatory sweating in few year? Can miraDry not completely destroy the sweat gland (only weaken their function not completely for reduce sweating by around 70% or 50%)? If the answer is yes, is hyperhidrosis will relapse? Where can I get the recent news of the development of miraDry?

MiraDry is currently FDA approved for axillary hyperhidrosis (underarm area) only.  MiraDry uses energy to target and destroy sweat and odor glands.  Once theses glands are destroyed, they do not grow back.  Patients with severe hyperhidrosis may need more than one treatment.  Talk with your provider about your specific treatment plan.  You can always visit the MiraDry website for the latest "In the News" updates.  Best regards, Dr. Aldo :-)

Hi there, thank you for that question. MiraDry is only FDA cleared for use in the underarms, not other areas of the body. It destroys the sweat glands completely, once they are destroyed they do not "regrow". More than one treatment may be needed for optimal results, but once you are satisfied with your results hyperhidrosis will not come back (in the underarms ONLY). #hyperhidrosis   #underarmsweat   #compensatorysweating

Thank you for your question. miraDry is approved for the armpits, but additional indications are being developed.  Compensatory sweating after ETS is one of the dreaded side effects.  For the time being you can consider Botox as an effective alternative to miraDry to treat these areas.

Miradry does not cause compensatory sweating like ETS.  If you have compensatory sweating in your underarms, then you can use miradry to rid this sweat.  80% of patients only need one treatment.  20% need 2 treatments.

Compensatory sweating can occur after EVERY type of hyperhidrosis treatment, but is most likely after ETS.Compensatory sweating has been reported after Botox, suction curettage and at least 2 miraDry cases that I read on realself. I have done miraDry since 2011 and none of my patients have developed compensatory sweating. If you live in Hing Kong, you can convince a miraDry provider to do the procedure in the back for compensatory sweating as it will be safe.
