Can I go to a gun range at 4 weeks post op after BA surgery?

Question

I had breast augmentation surgery on Dec 2, 2015. I received a handgun for Christmas and I wondered if I could or should go to the gun range or wait several more weeks. I contacted my doctor and they said to ask him when I return for a follow up appointment at the end of January. I would really like to know now so I thought I would post this question. Thanks in advance for your response.

At 4 weeks post op, there’s probably no reason you shouldn’t
be able to participate in activities like this. The exception to this would be
if there are any complications unknown to me with you and your procedure
specifically. If you were asking about more high-impact or vigorous activities
such as horseback riding or running, I would have a different answer. To be
safe, consult your surgeon before you go to make sure there aren’t any special
nuances to your case that would mean you should hold off until further down the
recovery road.

I would recommend discussing this with your plastic surgeon as he/she is most familiar with your medical history and how you are healing at this time.  Call the office again and leave a message asking the MD to call you back.

true advice would be an in-person exam.

Hi purplesun79,I love this question.  Check with your plastic surgeon first and play it day by day after your surgery.  As long as you are feeling well, I don't see any problem with it.

Thanks for your question. At 4 weeks out, and if you are feeling pretty well overall, I would see no great reason why you couldn't go to a gun range. Make sure you have a good supportive bra, and follow up with your surgeon as he/she directed. Best wishes, and have fun!

I ask my patients to wait until six weeks postop before doing athletic
and heavy exercise and I believe the same would apply to firing at the gun
range.As always, you should use common
sense.If you anticipate heavy recoil or
if you are uncomfortable after beginning this or any other activity, you should
hold off longer and break into your new activity gradually.
