I'm 7 weeks post op lipo. I feel that my stomach was flatter 2 weeks post op and each week it seems to look bigger and bigger. I am still wearing my compression garment 24/7 as requested by my doctor. I’ve had a clean diet and I exercise 5 days a week. The biggest difference here is my waist. But my stomach still looks big like it did before. When I press on my lower tummy where it protrudes out, it’s almost like jelly or like it’s just full of liquid. Am I doing something wrong?
Answer: Swelling after liposuction Thanks for the question! This is VERY common after liposuction and is multifactoral...your stomach muscles are weaker since you are on restrictions for working out AND have compression on, which supports your abdomen so your muscles aren not working very hard to support you. As such, they get transiently weak. This is largely responsible for some of the "bloated" appearance. Once you are released for full activity, this will improve greatly as your abdominal muscles tighten again. Besides inactivity, swelling from lymphatics, skin laxity that hasn't had a chance remodel, and bowel regiment all play a roll. Best advice-be patient. This will certainly improve with time and activity. Follow the advice of your surgeon. I love radiofrequency massages after liposuction (we use thermismooth) and have had great success with a quicker recovery after liposuction as an adjunct. Although I usually start that on my patients after a couple weeks, it is not too late at 7 weeks to start the regiment to assist in your recovery. Best wishes, Dr. Hustak

Answer: Should I look like this 7 weeks post op? Hello. Great question. I am sorry for your post op difficulties. At 7 weeks it is still early to see your final results. Swelling may be present. I will suggest following up with your surgeon to rule out any fluid collection.

Answer: 7 weeks post In view of your pictures submitted, it really is too early to see the results. You're still recovering from liposuction surgery. This is very normal at this early stage. Continue to wear your compression garment as requested. You need to give it time at least up to 6 months. You are exercising as well as eating healthy. You are leaning in the right direction for great results.

Answer: Post-Liposuction Swelling / After Care -- Compression, Lymphatic Massage, Hyperbaric Oxygen, Radiofrequency Treatments Hi Hope, it's still too soon to tell what your final results will be. Swelling post-liposcuction can persist for months, so it's important to be on the right after care protocols. At this point, in addition to compression, you should be doing radiofrequency treatments like Venus Legacy, truSculpt iD, Exilis and Forma, and lymphatic massage (fluid drainage) to get you through healing. It will take 6 to 12 months to see the final outcome.Ultimately, if you are unhappy with your results, please speak to your physician and ensure that he/she was a full body VASER Hi-Definition liposuction physician with extensive experience in body shaping and not just traditional fat reduction. You can always get a revision procedure by an expert if needed. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Look appropriate for 7 days postop Swelling can be incredibly frustrating after liposuction. It’s not uncommon for some degree of swelling to persist for 6-12 months postop, generally in areas that are located low within the sites that had liposuction. For example, in the abdomen I find that the lower abdomen and pubic region tend to be the most swollen for the longest period of time. You’re doing the right things by eating cleanly and wearing compression. If you are eager to get results even sooner, lymphatic massage definitely can be beneficial as well. All in all, your pictures look appropriate for 7 weeks postop. Hope this helps - Sam Jejurikar, MD
