Fullness above lip after 1 month, should I have it dissolved? (Photo)

Question

I got lip filler for the first time 4 weeks ago and immediately got a puffy area above my lip. The injector said this would resolve as the swelling went down. I haven't noticed any improvement but the injector said nothing was injected above the vermillion border and it was a small amount of filler. She does not want to dissolve it saying it is only swelling that will go down with time. Is this possible after a month or should I get another consult to have it dissolved?

It is possible (depending on the technique and quantity injected) for the filler to migrate at the time of the injection and make the area look “puffy”. It can be dissolved.

There can be some swelling and/or lumps after lip injections which can last 1 to 2 weeks. You can apply firm pressure between two fingers on the lips for a few days, for 5 minutes at a time, in order to help decrease swelling and even out the lumps. If you're unhappy with your final results, you can have the filler dissolved with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. Best, Dr. Emer​​

It's tough to make a judgment with only one photo. If you could repost your question with before and answer photos it would be easier to give advice. In general, HA products dissolve on their own fairly quickly in the lips without enzyme treatment, and you do not appear to have a peculiar appearance to your upper lip. Hope this is helpful. I concur with your physician I would not dissolve the filler this early.  It is entirely possible that the swelling that you see will resolve especially if you perform massage.  Simply roll your upper lip between your thumb and index finger on both sides to gradually push any swelling or filler downward.

I would wait at least 3 months before considering dissolving the filler.  The problem is in some cases more than filler is dissolved creating depressions.
