Rhinoplasty in Turkey. How are surgeons trained compared the the US? Are hospitals held to strict standards?

I am thinking about having rhinoplasty and possibly a chin/jaw implant in Istanbul. I am from US. I am mostly worried about the anesthesia. How are surgeons and doctors trained in Turkey versus the US? Are hospitals held to strict standards? How would I be able to research safety data for hospitals and doctors in Turkey?

Turkey is generally very advanced in healthcare, both in terms of doctor training and hospital quality. More specifically, it is renowned for being at the forefront in the field of rhinoplasty in the world. The majority of surgeons here undergo advanced training and have vast experience. The standards of the hospitals are generally high, with most surgeries being performed in specialized plastic surgery centers and hospitals, as opposed to office-based surgeries. I would recommend thoroughly researching your chosen doctor's education and the facility where you'll be having your surgery. When picking a surgeon, it’s important to select one that you can personally engage with prior to surgery, review their before-and-after photos, and have detailed discussions regarding your aesthetic goals to make sure you understand one another. There is really no reason to do any cosmetic surgery outside of US when it comes to safety and quality. Every decision to do so outside of US should be based on detailed information about the surgeon and the place your surgery is going to be done, which you do not seem to have. In the case of any, even minimal complication and regular follow up, who is going to provide that necessary service once you are back in US? Although Turkey has quite a few good rhinoplasty surgeons you  should try to collect more data and possibly reconsider your decision. Hope this helps.

I am familiar enough with rhinoplasty surgeons in Turkey to be able to say they have excellent surgeons. No doubt that is because there is so much more demand for rhinoplasty so the surgeon are very experienced. In general I’m no fan of medical tourism in case there is a problem or a revision is needed

If you're looking to travel to undergo rhinoplasty, you should travel within United States for sure. If anything goes wrong, you will have no recourse. You must also consider the follow-up care and touchup revision work which is needed from between 10 to 20% of the time, depending upon who's doing the procedure. Rhinoplasty is the most difficult procedure to perform correctly in the entire field of cosmetic surgery, so choose your rhinoplasty specialist based on extensive experience.
