As we age, the nasal anatomy changes and the tip may start to droop. In addition I have seen patients nasal anatomy change becoming twisted or develop a dorsal hump. These features may occur as early as your 40s or 50s. Over time they become more exaggerated.
The droop associated with aging is related mostly to the skin changes. The cartilage most likely does not contribute to what sometimes occurs but not always in the nose during the later years. There is no known way to predict who will have significant nasal tip drop with age. Family history may be helpful in some instances. Having a rhinoplasty early in life- in my opinion- can help delay or prevent nasal tip droop in later years.
Dear luis16Like most things in life, this is a gradual change. Your cartilages continue to grow and that becomes more noticeable as we age. there is no set age. Very often, it becomes noticeable in late 60s and forward. This usually applies to nasal tip and ears.
This is a very individualized process that depends on a number of factors most of which are genetically determined: your cartilage strength and thickness of the skin are the two most important. Likely by early to mid 30s there is some weakening of the supporting ligaments between the cartilage that results in early tip droop.
The nose tends to age by thinning of the skin and weakening the ligaments connecting the nasal cartilages. When patient's have an Active depressor septi ligament, every time they smile it pulls the tip down which further weakens the droopiness over decades.
Hello Luisb16,With age the cartilage that supports the nose weakens in a few locations. This leads to the nose beginning to droop and elongate. This happens at different rates and to different degrees in different people. There is no set age for this to happen. You can look at your parents to get an idea of when and if that will happen to you. When it does begin to happen it is best to see a facial plastic surgeon or a general plastic surgeon who focuses on the face in order to determine what surgery would be best for you.
I have found in over thirty years of studying and working on noses that most people begin to show some nose ptosis (drooping ) in their late thirties and early fourties. This depends on many factors. If someone has a thick skinned nose and weak supporting lower lateral cartilages the process may star in the early thirties. Genetics has a play here. Thin skinned northern European noses with strong lower lateral cartilages will will appear stable longer possibly into ones early fifties. The process of elevating and slightly rotating a nose to get its old look back is rather easy and done with local anesthesia and oral sedation in my office in about 1 hour
There is no set time and no guarantee that it will happen. Often tracing your family's appearance over time can give you an idea.
Just because you age doesn't mean your nose will weaken and droop. You will experience changes in your face as your age. Best wishes to you!
Thanks for your question. For now I would not be too concerned, because it is likely swelling that is coming into play. Stay in communication with your surgeon as far as your healing progress. All the best,
If you had nasal trauma with a nose-bleed, and shiners, you may have broken your nose. The diagnosis of a nasal fracture is best made on examination, and an in-office closed reduction of a nasal fracture with local anesthetic may be performed within ten days of the trauma. See your rhinoplasty...
Dear gurrolaAt first glance it appears that you have had a nasal fracture likely from blunt trauma. You should first discuss your concerns with your parents and then perhaps together see a board certified plastic surgeon (or facial) to have your nose assessed and your questions answered.
Most surgeons will not "pack" the nose after surgery, as it is decidedly uncomfortable and not needed. "Splints" are commonly used when there have been incisions placed internally that could undesirably heal together and cause webbing or scarring. In my practice, I commonly use soft internal...
Thank you for you question. Taking antibiotics should have no effect on your results. With that said, if you experiencing a side effect of the antibiotic, contact the prescribing MD.
It would depend on the level of supervision in the clinic. Rhinoplasty is perhaps the most challenging operation in cosmetic surgery. It is hard to achieve naturally beautiful results that stand the test of time. The surgeons training and years of experience are important variables in the...
