How long could swelling on a nose take to go away?

I would wait 4 weeks and then if you still have asymmetry, you should see your plastic surgeon. In general X-rays are of little use in managing nasal fracture. Its what the actual nose looks like that matters.

Swelling of the nose can take some time to subside. It often takes about couple weeks for swelling to go down when hit hard. If by then the swelling persists, please consult with a facial plastic surgeon for further evaluation.Best,Sarmela Sunder M.D.

Swelling after nasal injury is usually mostly resolved within a few weeks, but can take several months to completely resolve.  You can be followed by a surgeon experienced in rhinoplasty who could determine if any procedure is indicated.

 A crooked nose can be fixed at any time after the injury, but it's usually best to wait a few weeks to let the swelling subside before going in and resetting the nasal bones straight. Also important to evaluate the septum to make sure it's not fractured and deviated as well.   At the time of the examination,  the upper lateral cartilages need to be checked to see if they have been dislocated off the nasal bones as well. Swelling can cause the appearance of a curvature. It is good to follow-up with a surgeon again  week after your accident as the swelling subsides. Good luck.

Just like rhinoplasty, swelling on the nose after trauma can take 6-12 months to go away completely. 

Hello default777,Nasal swelling tends to take awhile to go away.  As a rule of thumb it will swell for the first 2-3 days, stay there for 2-3 days and start to go away around day 5.  80% of the swelling is gone in 2 weeks and 90% in 2 months.  You had X rays of the nose but they really have no real purpose in evaluating for fractures.  The two biggest questions to be asked are 1) Does your nose look different to you (you said yes it is now crooked) and 2) Did it bleed?  If there was any blood then you had to cut the tissue on the inside of the nose indicating you had a break at least on the inside.  My recommendation would be to see a facial plastic surgeon or a plastic surgeon who focuses on the face this week.  If there was a break the nose can be set early by moving the bones.  If the bones start to heal because too much time has passed then it takes a larger operation to correct everything.  I hope this helps and good luck. 

Frequently nasal injury causes the separation of the upper lateral cartilages from their attachment to the underside of the nasal bone. Cartilage is not visualized in routine xrays. Also the cartilaginous septum can buckle and twist, causing asymmetry.This injury would  make the nose lopsided. If it doesn't disappear after a few months, you have to think of a cartilage injury that can be corrected.

Based on the information you have shared, you may need surgery to straighten your nose.  I would recommend you see your doctor in a week for an evaluation.
