On July 17th, my surgeon removed both of my 35-yr old Dow Corning double-lumen silicone gel implants?

First, both capsules surrounding implants and breast tissue had to be removed because they were calcified, hyalinized and contaminated with debris. The breast glands which had allowed me to breast feed my 3 children were dissolved (or in the words of an implant specialist, the implants "killed" my breast glands.) Second, altho the DC implants originally weighed 300 cc, they weighed 270 cc & 290 cc when removed, evidencing that silicone gel bled though the shell, which is typical of these devices.  Finally, when it came time to insert the new implants, the surgeon had to use the 350 cc size to compensate for everything that had been removed.   I was told by the implant specialist that my surgery was actually what is done in a mastectomy---ALL breast tissue is removed, leaving patient with an empty shell. A good friend who had had a recent mastectomy confirmed to me that all her breast tissue had been resected and removed before reconstruction with an implant, just like in my situation.   Does anyone know why Insurance pays for mastectomy/lumpectomy &  reconstruction in cases of cancer but views breast reconstruction after explanting FDA-banned implants as a "cosmetic" procedure?
