I agree with many of the answers below. I would say there are a few things to think about. Sometimes when you are allowed to take off your garment - you will tend to have more swelling than you are used to having when you had the garment on most of the time. This is normal. The amount of swelling you have can be surprising in comparison. However - whether you have a notable amount of swelling or not - it will resolve slowly week to week. It can take as long as 6 months for the swelling to completely resolve. The more active you are, the more likely you are to have the swelling resolve a little faster. If you do nothing - it will resolve. However- most people are more comfortable if they massage, exercise, or use one of the types of treatments that help with skin tightening or lymphatic drainage. In general, radio frequency, lymphatic massage, or a simple foam roller at home can be very helpful in reducing swelling and breaking up any scar tissue that could be forming. There are really only two common ways for actual fat to return in the area. One would be if you gain weight, and the other would be if you have high cholesterol that is not controlled. The high cholesterol issue is a significant one to know about before you do the procedure. It is generally part of your pre-op check. Have no fear- in time you are very likely to look just like you did right after the procedure. It just takes time. But you can massage the area, and use a roller to help things along if you are concerned about it. I hope that was helpful- it is a common question- so glad you asked! Celia Remy, MD
