After having me Mommy makeover, I noticed that my legs are swollen. Can it be me retain water after the surgery?

Hello, leg swelling after surgery can be due to several issues, some which will resolve on their own and others related to a potentially serious problem.  I would recommend contacting your surgeon for assessment.

This can indicate a deep venous thrombosis so contact your surgeon immediately because the office needs to be aware and you should know it can be serious.

It's normal to have swelling after surgery, but make sure your plastic surgeon is aware to make sure everything is okay.

Its not clear from your description how long ago your surgery was.Overall, any change such leg swelling should be brought to your plastic surgeons attention as it could be a blood clot or may just be swelling from having your abdomen tightened (most likely)best of luckdr schwartz

Dear nu lyfe,   I am sorry that you do not have good communication with your surgeon. My patients are free to call me at any time (hopefully not after midnight...) in regard to any concern that they might have. They all have access to my cell phone. So, I would recommend that you call your surgeon or his office and be seen asap. In regard to your question. It is not unusual to have swelling of the legs and feet after tummy tuck due to gravity. That swelling usually disappears within a week or two. The more worry some  condition is the swelling of one leg or foot, which might be a sign of DVT ( deep vein thrombosis ) . This condition needs immediate attention and treatment in order to avoid life threatening complication of pulmonary embolism. It is better to be safe than sorry, so see your surgeon even if your condition is part of normal healing.          All the best,                            Dr Widder

And abdominoplasty can create increased resistance temporarily to drainage of fluid from the lower extremities. This can translate in the short-term swelling of the knees and ankles. Compressive garments and limb elevation will help.

Leg swelling can have many different causes from retention of fluid from surgery, high sodium, or compression garments. However, there are more serious causes that include blood clots. Talk to your plastic surgeon so that he or she can evaluate you and give you the best advice.
