Is scar revision on the side of my nose (from dog bite) too risky? Is it worth it? (Photos)

Sorry to hear about the dog bite! The scar appears to be doing well all things considered. I would not recommend any surgical revision based on the photo you posted. I do believe some laser therapy (I'd recommend the Profractional laser by Sciton). This will help smooth the scar and blend it with surrounding skin tone. Best of luck, Dr. M

Thanks for your question and posting pictures.  I'm sorry this happened to you.  It has healed very well considering the original trauma.  Surgical scar revision is always an option, but it isn't without its risks.  You will always be trading a scar for a scar.  Will the next one be better or less noticeable?  Unfortunately, it will never be perfect.I would recommend trying a laser energy method first.  It will probably improve your scar and won't make it worse.  I would start with an ICON 1540nm or Fraxel 1520nm fractional resurfacing.  These laser would break up some of the underlying scar tissue and eventually give it a smoother texture.  Lasers can be very good at removing excess pigment.  It is unlikely that it will bring the color back so you will probably always have a white line.  This would be a super-easy procedure that would take less than 2 minutes with the laser.  We would probably do it 3-4 times, waiting one month between treatments.Look for a physician's office in your area with lots of laser options and excellent reviews.  It is a very small area.  You might ask to speak to the office manager or physician directly.  We like getting unique Before & After pictures.  We would treat this small area for a very small nominal fee with a photo release.  I think just about any professional office would agree to that type of terms and help give you some confidence back.  I hope this helps, best of luck.
