I had labiaplasty almost 3 months ago. I am still experiencing major discomfort. Any sort of pressure to my labia is so painful. I have not been amputated. I have a decent amount of tissue left although it is lumpy and also has some hardened scar tissue on part of the clitoral hood. I hate the way it looks but am only seeking revision to hopefully resolve the pain. Is revision surgery an option for pain or just aesthetics?
Answer: Revision surgery may help with pain but it wouldn’t be easy to predict If there is still a lot of inflammation and swelling this would likely still be causing pain. Sometimes revising the area can help with the pain, but this may cause more inflammation and make the issue last longer, I would recommend you give it atleast another 3 months if you don’t see any obvious cause of the issue, as the swelling an inflammation in that area can stick around for a long time. I’m sure this is very frustrating for you but it may still get better and there are options to help. Hope you get better soon.

Answer: Labiaplasty revision. Some inner stitches may take longer to dissolve completely which may feel lumpy and uncomfortable at times. In most cases, discomfort will resolve in about 3 months, but some cases may last longer. Do not consider a revision until at least 6 months from your original surgery. If you still have problems at that time, seek a consultation from a cosmetic gynecologist with expertise in labiaplasty revisions.

Answer: Options Hi Thriving637026, I am sorry that you are still dealing with some discomfort after your procedure. Three months is generally too soon to have a second procedure due to swelling fluctuation and scar tissue. The scar tissue could be causing you some discomfort but a second procedure at this time, will most likely not resolve that scar tissue. There are a couple less invasive options that might help you though. You could try to gently massage the area to break up some scar tissue or you could ask your provider if they are willing to inject a steroid to break it up. I hope this helps and I wish you luck in your recovery!

Answer: Labiaplasty Thank you for your inquiry! Communicate your concerns with your physician. A scar revision procedure could be a possible option to decrease your discomfort. I recommend scheduling a consult with a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon like myself to create a surgical plan based on your goals.

Answer: Pain after labiaplasty You persistent pain is almost certainly from painful scars from the labiaplasty. Hopefully the pain will resolve in a couple more months. Usually, the removal of the scars with reconstruction using healthy tissue eliminates or markedly improves the pain. I need to see you or photos showing the location of your pain. The reconstruction is much more difficult than a primary labiaplasty and should be done by a plastic surgeon with extensive experience in labia reconstruction. I published the first and most extensive paper on labia reconstruction in the prestigious journal "Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery" about ten years ago. I also contributed significantly to the chapter "Revision Labiaplasty" in the plastic surgery textbook " The Art of Aesthetic Surgery: Principles and Practice" edited by Nahai . Approximately 40% of the surgeries I perform are revisions of other surgeons’ labiaplasties. You probably will need various reconstructive techniques to eliminate your pain and to give you a good appearance. Gary J. Alter, M.D. Beverly Hills, CA - Manhattan, NYC
