Implant is painful - is this normal? (Photo)

Question

I received BA surgery in June 2023. As of late my left breast has been experiencing sharp pains every couple seconds. It's painful enough to the point it makes me twitch. I noticed today while lying down that my breast look different while laying down than it did initially in the first couple months. Looks like the implant placement changed? My surgeon says it is normal. Would like other professional opinions.

"Thank you for your question. During the first healing process, sharp pain can occur around the breast implant placement and the incision sites. However, once the wounds heal and your body becomes used to the implants, this localized pain subsides. Your pain and abnormal shape can be the result of capsular contracture, a condition in which scar tissue grows around the implant months after the surgery and causes pain and breast deformity. You should speak with your surgeon to discuss your concern about the pain and abnormal shape.

If you are experiencing any changes in the appearance of your breast, it is best to be seen by your surgeon. Sometimes it is normal, sometimes it is not. It sounds like you did see your surgeon and they told you everything is ok, but you are looking for confirmation. It is impossible for us to say whether or not your surgeon is correct, since we are not able to evaluate you in person. If you have any reason to doubt your surgeon, you should absolutely seek an opinion from another surgeon in person. Again, it may be nothing, but you want to feel comfortable.

Hello! You may want to be evaluated for what is called capsular contracture. It is the most common complication we see after breast augmentation and requires close monitoring and quick intervention to help prevent further breast pain/hardening/deformity. It can be treated if caught early enough w/ both medication or shockwave therapy. Best of luck!

From the photo it appears your implant is moving laterally in the pocket.  This can be tightened surgically to improve the placement.  The pain would need to be evaluated to determine the cause.  Your surgeon can rule out capsular contracture which can be painful.  I've included a video that I hope you find helpful.

Just based on your limited photos, your implant appears to be pushing out to the side more than on your other breast. If so, the pocket can be tightened. Please discuss this with your surgeon.
