Is it safe to use an infrared sauna blanket with implants? My doctor has retired and I’m not sure who to ask. The manufacturer has breast implants listed in their safety instructions to not use. Thank you!

If the manufacturer specifically lists breast implants as a reason not to use the device, the safest answer is to follow that warning. Standard sauna heat is generally not known to melt or damage breast implants, but an infrared blanket can create prolonged, close-contact heat and pressure over the chest, and the device maker is setting a safety boundary for its own product.

If your breast augmentation was recent, avoid sauna blankets completely until your surgeon clears heat exposure, usually after incisions are healed and swelling has settled. If your implants are old and you still want to use heat therapy, choose a conventional sauna or a device that does not list implants as a contraindication, and stop immediately for breast pain, redness, swelling, skin changes, or unusual tightness.

I would suggest not using any sauna blanket in your first 6 weeks of healing. After that, you can probably use it on low settings for short times over the breasts. If you have saline implants, the saline will probably remain closer to your body temperature. If you have gel implants, you may notice more heat.  It is still best to not use over your breasts. Since the manufacturer stated not to use, should you have a problem after using this blanket, the manufacturer will not be liable.
