Fillers for temple area? (photos)

Question

Hey, I’m only 23 and already have VERY hollow temples :( I’m very thin, so I don’t know if that’s could be the reason? If I gained weight could that change? And if not, could there be a real change with fillers? I added photos so you can see. Thanks in advance!!

What a great question! Well, you were gifted with genetically hollow temples. You were also gifted with beautiful hair, brows and eyes!  It is important to understand the anatomy of the temple before you jump on board the filler train. The temporal fossa is basically a deep ‘bowl’, if you will, that contains muscle, nerves and very important arteries. Knowing the shape and contents of the temple is important  so you choose an experienced injector. They will guide you on appropriate product, as well as know how to navigate this structurally difficult area safely. They will also, hopefully educate you on the commitment it takes to achieve full temples. The anatomy does not support a simple “one and done” treatment. It is a process- an expensive one! Depending on the the deficit, it would not be unusual for it to take multiple syringes per side (safely below the fascia). Given your presentation, you may also benefit from a series of temple filling with Sculptra (and in a perfect world PRP too). 
Gaining weight is not the answer in this case. The ratio of your facial structure would remain the same and you would just wind up spending money on filler- AND A NEW WARDROBE!

I prefer to use a superficial filler with cannulas in this area. I have tried many different techniques and this one uses the least amount of fillers and has the best results. I use Restylane Refyne or Defyne diluted 50/50 with lidocaine and then use a 23 g cannula to inject in the plane between the superficial and deep temporal fascia. The amount of filler varies. I predict you will need at least 2 syringes for correction. It should last you a year. Areas such as temporal fusion line, orbital rim, and supraorbital area can be addressed with this technique. Hello, thank you for your question. Hollow temples can make us look gaunt no matter how old we are. This is more commonly seen in thin individuals but may be genetic or related medical conditions. The temporalis muscle sits in the fossa or hollow and is one of the muscles that help us move our jaw. This muscle can be very bulky in some and very small in others. This too contributes to how the temples look.
For people with hollow temples, options to improve the look include filling the space. This can be done with fillers (Restylane Lift, Voluma, Juvaderm, Sculptra are all options) or fat. Fillers tend to last 1-3 years in this area. It can be very satisfying to have your temples filled, but most of the options are temporary.
Make sure your injector is very comfortable with the anatomy in the temples because it is a complex area to inject and there are risks if done improperly! I hope this helps. - Dr. Leong

This is a common complaint is all ages. Filler is a great treatment and gives good results. You need to find an experienced injector as this is an advance treatment area.
The Hyaluronic  Acid fillers work really well.

Thank you for your question and pictures. Hollow temples can be from many different causes. More pronounced on thin and aged faces. It can easily be improved with injections of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. Results will last on average 12 to 24 months. I hope this help. All the best, Dr.Michon

It’s extremely hard to see your temple on each side based on the photos you sent. Yes, you can use fillers if you have volume loss in your temples.
