Were stitches removed too late?

I typically remove eyelids sutures much earlier but different surgeons do things differently , depending on what is needed for each patient at the time of surgery. And in most cases, we all get good results, even using different rtechniques and practices. 

Your sutures were removed in a normal time frame.  The eyelid skin is very thin and usually heals very well.  It can take a while for the incisions to settle down, flatten and fade though depending on many factors.  Sutures left in for 7 days is a very typical time frame and you shouldn't worry.  All the best!

Sutures are not ideal skin closures meaning there can always be minor healing issues associated with suture material.  Sutures are removed early to minimize these but they can still occur.  The difference of a day really makes no difference.  This is not worth your concern.

There is a wide range of times that surgeons use to remove sutures - from 3 or 4 days to 2 weeks.  Many of the sutures we use create very little skin inflammation and if they are left in longer periods it does not create any problems.  You had yours removed at one week which is right on schedule.

My personal preference is 5-10 days after surgery. However, there is no firm "rule" as to when they need to be removed. 

There is no solid rule as to when to remove the sutures. It depends on the suture material used. Eight days is within the time frame and I would not be concerned with the timing.

You don't mention having any problems so I'm not sure why the question is being asked. Also, Thursday to Thursday is 7 days, not 8. Your sutures were removed at the appropriate time. Only your surgeon knows what was done and what type of suture was used and only your surgeon is the best determinant of your post-operative care, especially as long as there are no problems.

Hello E_949,The day of surgery is considered day 0.  Your sutures were removed on post operative day 7.  This is consistent with normal practice.  Some people even use absorbable stitches which take even longer to go away.  You also didn't indicate you had any issue.  Problems tend to knock down the door instead of tiptoeing in.  Try to enjoy your recovery and not be looking for problems as that can make an otherwise enjoyable process much more anxiety provoking.  At this point continue to follow up with your surgeon to continue to assess the healing process.  I hope this helps and good luck.
