It does look hypertrophic in this photo. Silicone sheeting can work really well on hypertrophic scars, if the scar is unresponsive to that steroid injections may be needed. I would recommend getting in to your physician and talking about treatment options as there are many.
Brachioplasty can sometimes result in scars that are wide or thick. Scars take about 12-18 months to significantly mature so that they appear finer and the color fades. At 40 days postop following brachioplasty, you are early in your recover. However, it does appear that you have developed hypertrophic scars. You should follow-up with your surgeon for recommendations about how to treat these scars. Treatment may include scar massage, silicone scar therapy and even corticosteroid injections.
Hello Sana Ali, thank you for your question. Congratulations for havingundergone a brachioplasty. I would stillsuggest arm compression for another 2-3 weeks. This should help flatten thescar. If the scar does not flatten, then you may be a good candidate forsteroid injections. Another option is using a V-beam laser. The laser will helpsoften the scar. Sincerely, J. Timothy Katzen, M.D.
Hi Sana...Scarring after brachioplasty is often quite dramatic and long lasting. That said, your scars may be in the early phases of hypertrophy. I certainly think close consultation with your surgeon is warranted. Treatment modalities at this point include use of scar creams, silicone sheets (or products like Embrace), compression garments, steroid injection or simple observation. I wish you the best!
Brachioplasty scars tend to look red and raised for a longer period of time when compared to other incisions on the body. Silicone sheets, kenolog (steroid) injections, and compression garments will help your scar to progress in a favorable manner. I would advise you to revisit your surgeon. He/she will advise you on next steps as your scar does appear to be hypertrophic.
taking into consideration that you are only more than a month out of surgery, its hard to say what the final outcome of the scar will look like. It takes about 6 months to a year for a scar to fully mature. But your scar does seem to have the appearance of hypertrophy. I would consider local scar care once cleared by your plastic surgeon. Ultimately, if you are unhappy with the appearance of your scar, a scar revision is an option you can discuss with your surgeon.
Yes, the scar does appear to be hypertrophic; relatively raised/red compared to most scars at this stage after arm lifting surgery. Your plastic surgeon will likely have treatment options available to you; sometimes, use of intralesional steroid injection and/or silicone sheeting may be helpful. Best wishes.
It seems the scar is an early hypertrophic scar. Initial treatment with silicone gel sheating, and time may improve the scar.
Hard to tell from pics only at one month. If the scar is hard, itchy and raised higher than the normal skin it is probably early hypertrophic ,so review with your doctor best ways to address it
It is difficult to answer your question without having photos to review. Side by side pre and post op photos would be very helpful. Also, a time frame of your surgical procedures will help to created a frame of reference. I recommend that you revisit with your surgeon (and/or a...

Hello jkwpdx, thank you for your question. Yes, your clinical course sounds “normal”. Initially after a brachioplasty or arm lift, as the swelling goes down, the nerves awaken. This can be experienced as burning, tingling, or even burning pain. If the tingling or pain is excessive, please con...
