last year i had a intramural chin implant removed. Since then, the inside of my bottom lip sticks to my bottom gum. The best way i can describe it is if you imagine a large sticky gummy bear stuck on the inside of your mouth and you can't remove it. It feels gross! The mentalis muscle feels extremely tight and i can't close my mouth. I have dimples on my chin as well Is there anything that can be done for these problems? thankyou very much
Answer: Concerns after removal of a chin implant Thank you for your pictures. Your webbing is incisional placement problem. This can be corrected but it may need supplemental tissue especially if it is if it affects the gum tissue that is closest to your teeth. The mental is muscle can be repositioned to help you achieve better lip competence. The dimpling your chin is a soft tissue/scarring deficit. This can be nicely treated with fillers as a temporary measure or fat as a more permanent solution.

Answer: You may wish to consult a reputable facial plastic surgeon about your concerns after Chin Implant Surgery. Depending on your examination, you may be a candidate for scar revision or possibly intralesional steroid injections to try to soften your intraoral scar. The dimpling on your chin may be improved, depending on the cause. If it's from a hyperactive mentalis muscle, Botox or Xeomin may prove beneficial. If they are only at rest, you could consider an injectable filler.Hope this helps you.Dr. Joseph

Answer: Intraoral Scar from Chin Implant - Mentalis Muscle Resuspension? This scar can be removed and replaced with an incision that should sit flat. If your profile still bothers you, a chin augmentation procedure could be performed at the same time. With regard to the trouble closing your mouth, that will need to be evaluated in person to make any specific recommendations. The dimpling in your chin is frequently responsive to Botox. I hope this information is helpful for you.Stephen Weber MD, FACSDenver Facial Plastic Surgeon

Answer: Treatment of Chin Vestibular Stenosis/Scar You have vestibular scarring because the incision was placed too low in the vestible. Now there is web banding across it and tightness. The reapproximation of the mentalis muscle may or may not have been done adequately. This is a tissue deficit problem and I have found that the placement of a dermal fat graft in the vestibule with the use of the dermal side as an inter positional graft after the scar release to be very effective for this type of vesicular stenosis problem. Resuspension of the mentalis muscle can be done at the same time if that is needed but it is not clear of its necessity based on your pictures alone.

Answer: Chin implant scar The scar can sometimes be resected, but if severe may need a mucosal graft to reconstruct the area. The dimples are easily treated with Botox. You need to consult someone who does a lot of this as it an advanced case, especially if you have mentalis dysfunction, which if all have dimples, it is probably minor.Joe Niamtu, III DMD Cosmetic Facial Surgery Richmond, Virginia niamtu@niamtu.com
