Dear Maylow,I understand your concern and your discoloration will probably disappear with time. However, without a proper assessment it would be difficult to determine what is wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment. Only after thorough examination you can get proper recommendations and advice.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery

The discoloration is brought on by inflammation after surgery. This is more common in ethnic patients who tan easily. Direct sunlight can make this darker so stay out of the sun. Using a skin lightening cream such as hydroquinone will help to lighten the pigment. It does slowly improve but may take 1 year or longer.
Discoloration after BBL is common and secondary to your pigment cells becoming activated. you can suppress these cells with topical steroids in the early period as well as hydroquinone and even quinolones depending on how aggressive you want to be. Please note that it will take upto 2 years for all of the discoloration to dissappear.
there are two processes that can leave patients with discoloration after these procedures. The first is bruising. This typically resolves by 3 to 4 weeks at the longest. It can potentially last a bit longer than that but that's only if there's a lot of blood that needs to be dissolved. There is a secondary skin color change that rarely happens but can especially if there was a lot of blood left behind from the procedure. This is called hemosiderin deposits. This happens when the iron from hemoglobin in red blood cells that's left behind forms into a compound called hemosiderin which can steam the skin for longer periods of time. Hemosiderin deposits can leave people discolored for many months and at times many years. Time is the only thing that makes things better and most likely if you're only seven weeks out this should improve substantially with more of it. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
Hi and welcome to our forum!Bruising is common after BBL due to the extensive tunneling during the procedure. Its duration varies greatly depending upon the amount of bleeding during and after the procedure. Compression garments appear to lessen the extent. Bruising usually lasts for several weeks, but can last longer if bleeding was extensive. It can take months for resolution. If iron pigment from hemoglobin becomes deposited in the skin, there can be permanent discoloration.I would avoid tanning during the healing process (for up to a year) to prevent further discoloration. Discuss this fully with your plastic surgeon.Best wishes...
