Worried about my round 2 BBL, I went fine but now I have an infection. I’m on antibiotics now but it doesn’t get better. What is that? I had my surgery in Istanbul but living in UK. How long it takes time to heal and how does r affect my results? I’m super worried and it’s very painful.
Answer: What caused this infection 2 months after BBL? Well, it "went fine" initially . . . until the dead fat became infected from openings in the skin where the fat injections caused loss of local circulation and dead skin. Warm, wet, dead tissue is a perfect culture medium for bacteria, and now those areas of dead fat are susceptible to bacteria entering those areas of skin breakdown. This can take a long time to get better, as the dead fat needs to be reabsorbed and the living fat carry your own antibodies and antibiotics to fight bacteria in those spots of dead fat.You really need to be under the care of a qualified plastic surgeon near your home. Too bad the surgeon in Istanbul can't see how surgery turned out. He will never get better/learn if he never sees his bad outcomes! But he's got your money and you have your problem. So sorry you became another example of surgical tourism gone bad. Your final result will be some dents, irregularities, and scar lumps where dead fat used to be. The living fat will remain. As this heals, the soreness will also improve, but this will probably be a long haul. I hope not for your sake. Best wishes! Dr. Tholen

Answer: What caused this infection 2 months after BBL? It is hard to say what happened in your specific situation since we are not your PS and do not know exactly what was done or the time line of everything you are experiencing. What I can say is that your body is not fully healed for 6 months to 1 year, so developing an infection 2 months out is not totally unheard of. My best guess is that you developed fat necrosis and it eventually got infected. The abscesses or pimples you see over your buttocks is where the infections is attempting to open the skin and drain. You also could harbor bacteria on your skin such as MRSA. If this is the case, any little opening in the skin can easily develop infection. For example, a small pimple after working out, can turn into a nasty infection. You want this infection totally cleared up and any bacteria fully treated before considering another BBL.
