Can't have tear trough injections because of water retention under eyes? (photos)

Question

The doc told me that I was not a candidate for restyale tear trough injections since I had some water retention under my eyes. He said that the tear trough line would still be visible, and that the bags would only be worse since the filler would also hold on to some of the water under my eyes. Does he seem to be right about this? Should I go to another who might do the procedure? Also, I am taking hyaluronic acid pills, could this have anything to do with the water retention under my eyes?

Hello! It is difficult to tell with your photo. You may still be a candidate for hyaluronic acid fillers in the tear trough area, and Restylane is "reversible" if you do not like it. I would recommend another consultation. Good luck!

You can still try fillers, but I recommend using an alternative to Restylane. I use Belotero and Voluma the most under the eye because I find it causes the least amount of swelling. I also recommend using cannulas to reduce the risk of swelling. For this area, a combination is needed to get the most improvement with fillers, lasers and microneedling/prp. See an expert. The quick and through look at the picture provided reveals a moderate tear trough. These can absolutely be filled with filler. I wouldn't go to someone who says otherwise. An experienced injector knows the proper plane to inject into and can avoid water retention. It's true HA fillers do attract water- that's what they were designed to do! 
Another option is that if these really bother you, a small surgical procedure can fix this problem. The puffy bottom eyelid is addressed- the excess "puffiness" is removed and placed in the depression in your lower lid area. It's very quick and prevent additional injection trips, the recovery associated with them and the recurrent expense.

Despite having excess fluid in the lower eyelid skin it is worth trying a filler injection at least 1 time to see if  it would minimize the baggy appearance.If for some reason you do not like the result it can be reversed with the help of hyaluronidase.  Make sure that the Dr. uses hyaluronic acid filler.RegardsDr. J

You are a candidate for fillers.  However, your doctor is telling you that they can't help you.  These are very fussy services.  Not all doctors are good at performing these.  Some are down right bad at these.  Very few injector are able to sculpt the lower eyelid.  You need to find an injector who can assist you with your issues.  There are other options but the fillers are the state of the art treatment for these issues.
