Can't have tear trough injections because of water retention under eyes? (photos)

Hello! It is difficult to tell with your photo. You may still be a candidate for hyaluronic acid fillers in the tear trough area, and Restylane is "reversible" if you do not like it. I would recommend another consultation. Good luck!

You can still try fillers, but I recommend using an alternative to Restylane. I use Belotero and Voluma the most under the eye because I find it causes the least amount of swelling. I also recommend using cannulas to reduce the risk of swelling. For this area, a combination is needed to get the most improvement with fillers, lasers and microneedling/prp. See an expert. The quick and through look at the picture provided reveals a moderate tear trough. These can absolutely be filled with filler. I wouldn't go to someone who says otherwise. An experienced injector knows the proper plane to inject into and can avoid water retention. It's true HA fillers do attract water- that's what they were designed to do! 
Another option is that if these really bother you, a small surgical procedure can fix this problem. The puffy bottom eyelid is addressed- the excess "puffiness" is removed and placed in the depression in your lower lid area. It's very quick and prevent additional injection trips, the recovery associated with them and the recurrent expense.

Despite having excess fluid in the lower eyelid skin it is worth trying a filler injection at least 1 time to see if  it would minimize the baggy appearance.If for some reason you do not like the result it can be reversed with the help of hyaluronidase.  Make sure that the Dr. uses hyaluronic acid filler.RegardsDr. J

You are a candidate for fillers.  However, your doctor is telling you that they can't help you.  These are very fussy services.  Not all doctors are good at performing these.  Some are down right bad at these.  Very few injector are able to sculpt the lower eyelid.  You need to find an injector who can assist you with your issues.  There are other options but the fillers are the state of the art treatment for these issues.

You are seeing the lower lid fat pads.   These may swell more some days depending on diet etc.  But that does not mean fillers should be avoided.  Some HA filler such as Restylane would help to smooth out the area and make the fat pads less visible.  Find  a new person who is comfortable with lower lid filler injections.

If you are a truly not a candidate for Restylane because you retain water there are other injectables that can be used for improving volume in the tear trough region that are less hydrophilic that could be an alternative based on your candidacy. It is difficult to determine your candidacy based on photographs alone so I would recommend to seek an in person consultation with a very experienced injector. 

So tear trough injections are an effective way to rejoin your cheek and lower lid compartment but if you have puffy lower lids, the inflammation associated with the injections can actually make you look worse. I have experienced this a few times where patients have had tear trough injections and for the first few weeks their eye bags have been noticeably worse. It is not an absolute no therefore but something you should bear in mind before going ahead. hope that helps; Adam Goodwin

Undereye fluid retention can definitely be a problem, but you should see someone more experienced in treating tear troughs. Although Restylane has been used for this area for quite a few years, it is the wrong product for the area. The only products I have used in this area for many years is Radiesse and Juvederm Voluma, and I have now stopped using the former since Voluma is reversible and even it can cause some swelling, though much much less than the other hyaluronic acid products like Restylane. Voluma and Radiesse are placed below the orbital septum which only causes swelling if it occludes the lymphatics where the products like Restylane placed above the septum cause swelling by drawing water into the area.
