Hello,Density is one of the most critical factors after hair transplantation. Early on you may not be able to fully determine your density. Density depends on various factors including the number of hairs per cm squared, the thickness and vibrancy of hair, direction and design of hair. Techniques for density vary from surgeon to surgeon. In my office, we utilize a specialized technique that allows for optimizing density and found it to be helpful. Best,Dr. Anil Shah
You can't really judge a result without a BEFORE photo. In general the transplanted hair will grow in 6 to 12 months. In rare instances, it may take longer.
For us to evaluate if it is an acceptable or bad result, we need to also see your pre-op photo. Your density might be less maybe because all the 3400 grafts were distributed over a very large area. In such a case then it might be the best your surgeon could have done. You can consider a second hair transplant to improve on this if you still have some donor hair left. There may be more growth in the next 4 months but not much improvement from now.
Maximal results are usually obtained around month 9-12. While you likely have close to your final result, a bit of improvement might still be seen.Waiting a bit makes sense but be sure you keep in contact with your surgeon about expected results whether this represents growth of most of the 3400 hair follicles (or 3400 grafts) or not. Comparison to your "before" photos will be important
At 8 months post surgery, around 75% of transplanted hair come back but in cases of delayed growth, it maybe upto 18 months before the best results come. It will be better to visit your surgeon and compare your immediate post op results with your result now.
You have mentioned 3400 hair follicles - but usually the count is in terms of grafts, regardless of the number of hairs in each graft. It is important to clarify this with your doctor. As pointed out earlier, it would be difficult to judge the result without a before photo.
Can take up to 18 months. All hair transplants do not always produce results, and the bigger the more risk involved. You should stay in touch with your clinic for close follow up.
You ned to wait for up to 18 months to see the full, hair growth. If it is still thin then you need to Do a follow up visit to your doctor.
It is likely that you will see some improvement over the next 4-6 months, but it probably won't be dramatic. If you had 3400 follicles transplanted, that would only be around 1500-1600 follicular units, which would not be enough to provide a lot of density in someone with your amount of hair loss. You should see your doctor and review what you discussed prior to surgery.
First, I would advise you to go back to your doctor and ask him the very same question you asked here. At 8 months, I would expect to see 80%+ growth so ask him. Then, of course, you can get a second opinion but wait another 2 months to give it the maximum time to grow out. Then what you have is what you will end up with. A good conversation with your doctor about his representations and your expectations needs to occur.
