Is it necessary to be hospitalised after gynaecomastia surgery and how long should one wear compression garments?

Thank you for your question.All #gynecomastia #surgeries are #outpatient procedures done either in he office or a certified outpatient #surgery facility meaning you can have surgery and go home the same day without being hospitalized.  You will be required to wear a #compression #garment after
surgery for the next few weeks. The extra pressure this garment provides
helps reduce swelling and discomfort. You should not remove this garment at all
until the second or third day after surgery. After that, feel free to remove
the garment temporarily for showering or laundering. We want you to have
circumferential pressure for 4-6 weeks, but you may switch to an exercise compression

Dear Rohin, Gynecomastia Correction is essentially a day care procedure. You can get operated in the morning and get discharged by afternoon or late evening. For the 1st 1 month we recommend that you wear compression garments at all times and for 8 hours a day for the next 15 days.

Each surgeon has their own requirements for recovery and the compression garment. For my patients, they can go home usually after an hour and a half in the recovery room. If they are doing as expected they may go home but need a responsible adult to drive them home and stay with them for 24 hours.  I have them wear their compression garment for 6 weeks. Good luck!

Hi,    Thanks for your question. I perform the procedure under local anesthesia. About 15-20% of our cases(those with less pain tolerance or anxious individuals) require a light sedation along with the local anesthesia. We have an anesthetist present for even those surgeries performed under local anesthesia. The person is usually discharged 1-2 hours after the procedure. The compression vest is to be worn for 4-6 weeks.

Hi rohin88,Thanks for the post. Gynecomastia surgery is an outpatient surgery performed under local or general anesthesia. Patients do not have to be hospitalized routinely after this surgery.  In my practice I have patients wear their compression garments between 4-6 weeks, but every surgeon may have a different practice in this regard.Sincerely,Dr. Dadvand

 Have not done one in the hospital in many decades. Outpatient operation usually done under a light sedation type of anesthesia through a tiny incision in the armpit with no visible scar on the front of the chest. Compression garment variable from several weeks on Up. Patients often tell me they used it much longer because it felt secure.

Most gynecomastia surgeries are performed as an outpatient surgical procedure.  However, some may opt for an overnight stay.Compression garments are typically worn 3-6 weeks, although each surgeon has his own recommendations. Good luck and best wishes.
