I had thigh liposuction 7 months ago. The surgeon took out (1000cc of fat per thighs) and injected it into my hips and buttocks (840cc per side) which I think is a lot. My thighs now look skinny and my hips are too wide. My lower body is disproportionate. My question is: can I reverse this surgery? I don’t want these wide fatty hips anymore. I want my previous body back. Is it possible to take out some of the hip fat and return it back to my thighs without causing skin irregularities?

Answer: Can I reverse my Brazilian Butt Lift? Yes in very experience lipo reduction surgeons hands. But you are asking 2 different questions: 1. Removal outer hip grafted fat; 2. Re transfer fat to thighs. Both can be done but the re transfer has risks of un evenness and irregularities in skin/dimples/dents. As long as you are willing to undertake both parts of the surgery, the understanding of the risks vs benefit ratios, then expect fees in the $10,000 ranges. BTW outer hip specialized taping is a must.

Answer: Reversal of BBL The simple answer to your question is yes. Previously grafted fat can be removed though Liposuction cannot differentiate native fat versus grafted fat. Personally I view the BBL as an extension of body contouring trying to create S curves from the armpits to the knees and often build up the outer thighs as the hips and buttocks are enlarged to create a smooth continuous curve. I see providers purposely reducing the thigh to make the butt look larger which is unnatural looking and in my opinion not aesthetically correct. I find these contours are best created with patients laying on their side during the procedure. I find it an ideal procedure to do avoiding general anesthesia because it allows me to position the patient in various positions throughout the procedure. Whether you opt for just having a Liposuction or Liposuction and with fat grafted into your thighs is up to you and whoever does the procedure. The process is the same. Follow up with your provider. If you don’t have faith in that person then seek a second opinion through new in person consultations. Ultimately your provider is responsible for the outcome and your well-being and you likewise are responsible for choosing that provider. Liposuction/fat transfer results vary immensely among different providers. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of choosing the most experienced and talented providers for these procedures. Do that by scheduling multiple in person consultations. During each consultation ask each provider to show their entire collection of before and after pictures for the procedure you’re interested in. Avoid providers with any substantial number of justified negative reviews on various physician review websites. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
