I'm having a tt next year and want to get in the best shape possible before surgery. I do some yoga/Pilates classes but doing research on diastasis recti I found out some of these exercises can actually make it worse. Should I continue them if I am going to have a tummy tuck anyway? I have also learned there are certain exercises to help close the gap (mine is 10cm). Would attempting to at least partially close the gap prior to surgery have any benefits for me in terms of pain/recovery?
Answer: Exercise has no effect on preoperative abdominoplasty.
Whereas your efforts to remain fit should be applauded, they really will have no effect on your subsequent abdominoplasty.

Answer: Stay in shape!
While it's always a great idea to be in the best possible shape you can prior to surgery, make sure that you can sustain that shape after surgery. If getting that perfect pre operative look involves more effort than you can sustain, you'll notice a relapse after surgery. Be reasonable in your approach and let your surgeon sculpt you as you are. Further trimming on your part will only enhance the result.

Answer: Getting in shape
good afternoon!
Getting in shape before your abdominal procedure is always a great idea- it helps maximize you results and allow your surgeon to concentrate less on fat removal and more on sculpting your figure, allowing for a much more predictable result.
I would not be too concerned about worsening your diastasis- you recovery will be essentially the same.
I hope this helps

Answer: Getting in the Best Shape Possible Before Tummy Tuck With a Diastasis Recti?
I would continue with your fitness programs. Even if the diastasis gets worse, it will not be more difficult for your surgeon to repair. Keeping your weight down is the best thing you can do to have a repair that lasts. All the best.

Answer: Getting in the Best Shape Possible Before Tummy Tuck With a Diastasis Recti?
Hi
It is great to know that you are committed to getting the best result. Well done,I am certain you will not be disappointed after your TT. Keeping fit by doing core exercises helps you to attain your ideal body weight, lose intra abdominal fat and improve your body contour by loosing sub cutaneous fat ( fat under the skin). By increasing strength of core muscles you will increase the stability of your spine, improve posture and increase the blood flow and circulation to the area which is important when it comes to wound healing after your TT. When you have set up a great foundation your Plastic Surgeon can then get rid of excess skin, tighten the rectus separation and give you the pleasing contour you wish for.
Since you have a structural separation of your rectus it is hard to imagine that strengthening your core would correct it. But your core muscles are very complex and they interact with one another in a very complex manner. You should consult with a physio who specialises in treating back injuries as they will know if it is possible. Physio for a lower back injury involves a LOT of core exercises. And I would not recommend doing core exercises unsupervised or without professional guidance.
Hope this helps
