Rash/hives on chest after BA: 1.5 weeks post op breast augmentation. (Photo)

Thank you for your question regarding a rash on your chest.  Typically any skin rash after surgery is not a result of your new implants but more likely the antibiotic or skin wash used for your surgery.  Stopping all prescription medications you are currently taking and I recommend taking an over the counter antihistamine and using topical hydrocortisone to relieve your symptoms.  Contact your plastic surgeon to make them aware of your situation.  Good luck.

I see it happen occassionally. It goes away with time. If it’s unbearable your surgeon can  order you a short course of steroids. Work closely with your surgeon!Best

It's not a normal reaction, but I think that it's unlikely to be related to your implants. I would contact your surgeon and let them know what's going on. They will be able to give you specific advice. The rash could be related to medication, tape, or the skin prep used during your surgery. Often times you never find out exactly what causes the rash, but it resolve completely without any treatment. Congratulations on your surgery!

Occasionally patients will develop a rash after surgery due to a contact allergy or sensitivity to a new garment/ bra/ compression strap or from the surgical prep. I recommend that patients wash all garments in a dye and fragrance free laundry detergent and limit moisturizers for a few days. If it worsens, please contact your surgeon or a dermatologist since fungal skin reactions can also occur.   

Thank you for sharing your question and photographs and congratulations on your augmentation!  This is very common after an augmentation and likely due to the cleaning solution used at the time of surgery in conjunction with skin stretch and inability to bathe normally.  With further maturation of your results you should see these clear up.  Hang in there!

Thank you for your question. Yes, this can happen. Please speak to your plastic surgeon if you are concerned. 

This rash is typically due to the surgical prep solution.  You are not allergic to your implants.  Keep in close contact with your plastic surgeon, and he/she may order you some steroids or Benadryl if it persists.
