Parts of Areola missing after breast lift/reduction and implants. What happened and what can be done? (Photos)

I would not do anything for at least 1 year.  It looks like you may need/want a scar revision but I do believe most of the pigment in your areola will return by then.  The pigment producing cells (melanocytes) are very sensitive to trauma such as surgery and wound healing.  Be patient.

Thanks for your pictures.  I can not explain what the issue was with your reduction.  You will need a revision and it is best accomplished 6 months after your original surgery.  Best wishes.

I would wait 12 months before looking at the options. The first query will be are you happy with the size and shape of your breasts. If you are happy with the size and shape of the breast then the options for the areola will be a scar revision or areola tattooing. If you are unhappy with the size and shape and the areola size and shape you are best to have a breast reduction revisionary procedure. 

This is an unusual complication and most likely due to minor compromise in the blood supply to your nipple during healing.  I have seen this in one of my own patients recently.  Over time the pigment cells usually recover & the pigment returns.  At 6 months there is probably still a chance that colour will return.  I would wait a full 12 months before considering having any scar revision or tattooing etc.  I don't think the issue is due to suture removal time.  Having a lift & implants combined is an operation fraught with complications compare to separating these 2 procedures.  All the best

Hi, thanks for the question and the photos. Looking at the photos over your post operative recovery, it looks like there may have been some wound breakdown, delayed healing or superficial wound infection related to the sutures. So it this stage if you want to avoid another surgery you could consider nipple areolar tattooing. This may help disguise the irregularity. That may be a simple first step.
