In general, scarring is a product of genetics. Some people are good scar formers and others are poorer scar formers. There is no one best therapy for scars. Silicone sheets, Mederma, and Biocorneum are reasonable and popular options. I recommend that the scar therapy begin after the scars have healed and there are no open areas, which usually takes 4 to 6 weeks.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA
There are a lot of scar creams on the market. I used to think that all of them were pretty much voodoo and that it took a year to a year and a half for scars to fully flatten, fade, and mature. I started using BioCorneum in my office a few years ago and I have been very impressed by the results that I have seen. Again, I don't really know for sure whether it was the BioCorneum or simply just good patient scarring naturally, however, of all the scar creams on the market, I would recommend BioCorneum as the best one that I have seen.
